Training Requirements

A minimum of 28 hours of continuing education in specific CBT topics. Learn more about CBT-C certification training requirements.

Pre-approved, 3rd party trainings that meet the training requirements for certification include:

Please note that Evergreen Certifications does not offer continuing education, all training must be purchased directly through the accredited training organization. Training is not included in the certification fee.

Consultation

The applicant must present and pass a minimum of 2 clinical case studies in CBT-focused case review consultation sessions, with an Evergreen Certifications Approved Consultant*. The consultation sessions must be completed within 2 years of completion of education hours.

The following information should be included in the case presentation (it may be helpful to prepare with writing this information out and/or bring a transcript of the session to consultation):

  • Case conceptualization of presenting issue, including cognitions and behaviors
  • Agenda of session, including:
    - Check-in
    - Objectives prepared for session
    - Session activity
    - Feedback
    - Homework given to client
  • Application of CBT skills, including psychoeducation, cognitive restructuring, exposure, behavior activation, and mindfulness

To be approved for CBT-C certification, applicants must pass 2 clinical case studies by receiving a score of 3 or 4 in each category of the Case Consultation Form. Amanda K. Crowder, LCSW, CBT-C

Biography:
Amanda Crowder, LCSW, is co-author of the best-selling book CBT Toolbox for Children and Adolescents: Over 200 Worksheets & Exercises for Trauma, ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, Depression & Conduct Disorders (PESI, 2017). Amanda is an expert at moving evidence-based interventions into practical methods for application and moving research into action. She has created and adapted evidence-based interventions to work with the most challenging children, adolescents, and families in the most difficult situations. By helping to establish the Trauma Informed Care initiative within Carolinas Medical Center, Amanda has proven her leadership in moving clinical concepts into practice. Avidan Milevsky , PhD, LCPC, CBT-C

Biography:
Avidan Milevsky, PhD, LCPC, has over 20 years of experience specializing in the broad application of cognitive behavioral interventions for multiple client difficulties. He is an associate professor of psychology at Ariel University and a psychotherapist at The Center for Mental Health in Bet Shemesh, Israel. He also serves as a psychotherapist at Wellspring Counseling in Towson, MD. His clinical research has produced over 100 conference presentations, more than 30 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and six books including Will I Ever be Happy Again, Understanding Adolescents for the Helping Professional, and Sibling Issues in Therapy. Dr. Milevsky has lectured to audiences in the United States, Canada, South America, Europe, and the Middle-East on various topics including cognitive behavioral interventions for individual and family issues, parenting, sibling relationships, and the intersection between spirituality and mental health. He has been interviewed by national media about his work including stories in The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Associated Press, Real Simple, and Allure magazine. Additionally, Dr. Milevsky is a columnist for Psychology Today and The Huffington Post on well-being issues. Charles Jacob, PhD, CBT-C
Biography:
Charles Jacob, PhD, is a faculty member at Sacred Heart University in Connecticut. He received his PhD from The Pennsylvania State University and completed a year of additional training at the Center for Cognitive Therapy at the University of Pennsylvania. He has over 15 years of clinical experience conducting and overseeing the delivery of mental health services to individuals with severe mood and personality disorders as well as their families. In addition to training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy for the treatment of borderline personality disorder, Dr. Jacob is an expert in Cognitive Therapy and a highly regarded clinician and scholar. He is a recipient of PCA's David W. Hall Advocacy Award, and has been a featured interview in Counseling Today as well as NPR’s The Pulse.

Biography:
David M. Pratt, PhD, MSW, is a New York State Licensed Psychologist with 40+ years’ experience working with children, adolescents and families. Dr. Pratt is in private practice at the Western New York Psychotherapy Services in Amherst, NY and a trainer with PESI, Inc. He is presently on faculty with the University at Buffalo, School of Social Work, Office of Continuing Education and a member of New York State, Office of Mental Health Advisory Board on Evidence-Based Treatments for Youth. He was the Principal Psychologist at the Western New York Children’s Psychiatric Center, Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University at Buffalo and Adjunct Professor/Lecturer, University at Buffalo Counseling, School and Educational Psychology department. Dr. Pratt has conducted numerous trainings in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy at local, state, national and international forums. He is the author of CBT Toolkit for Depressed, Anxious and Suicidal Children and Adolescents (PESI Publishing, Inc., 2019) and Advanced CBT Toolbox for Children and Adolescents: Promoting Resilience, Positive Emotions and Personal Growth (in press, PESI, Publishing, Inc.).

Renewal

To maintain CBT-C certification, a renewal is required. After your initial 3-year certification, you can renew for 3 years. A 3-year renewal requires 18 clock hours of CBT focused continuing education.

To become CBT-C certified, you must complete all requirements outlined in the certification standards. If you have taken a training not listed as a pre-approved training, please send the course title, outline, learning objectives, and speaker information to info@evergreencertifications.com for review.

To get the most out of the consultation experience, it is recommended (though not required) to work with one consultant as that consultant will be better able to get to know your clinical skills and you will get the most out of the consultation process.

You will receive a completed Case Consultation Form from the consultant you present your clinical case to. You will receive a separate form for each case presented. Three (3) passing forms are required for certification.

When your certification application is approved, you may use the credential "CBT-C"

Your digital badge is automatically in your online account when your certification is active.

Once your application is approved, your certification is granted for three years. To maintain certification, a renewal is required every three years.

Yes, to maintain certification, a renewal is required every three years.

To maintain your CBT-C certification, you need to renew your certification every three years. Renewal requires taking a minimum of 18 hours of CBT-focused continuing education, submitting your completion certificate(s), a copy of your professional license, and the renewal fee to Evergreen Certifications. Re-certification training hours need to have been taken in the time since you were initially certified or last renewed. Renewals are calculated from the date that your certification was issued.

If you allow your certification to lapse for more than 2 years, you are no longer eligible to renew your certification and instead can reapply for certification.
