To be eligible for CVMHP certification, the applicant must have earned a minimum of a master’s degree in their profession and hold a state or national license as listed above, with all training hours and supervision requirements completed to be licensed for independent practice in the state they are licensed.

Training Requirements:
A minimum of 24 hours of continuing education as outlined in the educational requirement section of the standards.

Please note that Evergreen Certifications does not offer continuing education, all training must be purchased directly through the accredited training organization. Training is not included in the certification fee.
Complete Clinical Hours:
Candidates must attest that over the course of their career, they have worked with clients with military background.
Complete Exam:
The applicant must obtain a passing score of least 85% on the clinical skills application exam. Exam will be assigned upon purchasing certification or qualified training.

- A copy of the candidate’s professional license
- Evidence of completion of qualifying training, in the form of a CE or completion certificate

- Remit your initial certification application fee of 249.99 USD online
Evergreen Certifications will certify applicants who meet the above requirements.
Please note: Certification does not imply endorsement of clinical competency. As a licensed professional, you are responsible for reviewing the scope of practice, including activities that are defined in law as beyond the boundaries of practice in accordance with and in compliance with your profession’s standards.
Renewal Process:
To maintain certification, a renewal is required, after your initial 2-year certification. A 2-years renewal requires 12 clock hours for veteran or military focused continuing education.

Renewal CE content cannot be the same content used for prior renewal or initial certification
Renewal Process
- Complete a qualifying training
- Upload the following documents to your account:
- A copy of your professional license
- Evidence of completion of qualifying training, in the form of a CE or completion certificate
- Remit your renewal application fee of 99.99 USD online
Renewal training hours need to have been taken in the time since you were certified or last recertified.
Renewals are calculated from the date that your certification was issued. If you allow your certification to lapse for more than 2 years, you are no longer eligible to renew your certification and instead can reapply for certification

Justin Baker - PhD, ABPP
Justin Baker, PhD, ABPP, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at OSUMC and the Clinical Director for the Suicide and Trauma Reduction Initiative for Veterans (STRIVE), a research and clinical treatment program that prioritizes evidence-based treatment for veterans, first responders, and their family members. He is a board-certified clinical psychologist and military veteran focused on improving interventions for posttraumatic stress disorder and suicide among military service members and veterans. He is currently project lead on several federally funded studies to include a peer-mentoring program aimed at suicide risk reduction that teaches peer mentors how to implement crisis response plans (CRP), a suicide prevention intervention demonstrated to reduce suicide attempts by 76%, with at risk peers within their military unit. Dr. Baker is also a national consultant and trainer for CRP and Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (BCBT), two evidence-based suicide prevention interventions and is currently principal investigator on a clinical trial adapting BCBT for telehealth services.
Melissa Bradley- Ball - MS, NCC, BCETS, FAAETS
Melissa Bradley-Ball, MS, NCC, BCETS, FAAETS, is a psychotherapist, clinical educator, corporate consultant and mediator. She is a Fellow, Diplomate and board-certified expert in traumatic stress for the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. She has been a frequent keynote speaker at national and statewide conferences and has provided training internationally to more than 350,000 professionals, including mental health providers, medical providers, clergy and chaplains, law enforcement, and legal professionals. She is a former child abuse investigator who has provided expert testimony in criminal and civil court. Ms. Bradley-Ball has been a frequent guest on regional and national radio and television news addressing rape and sexual abuse. She has served as a subject matter expert on a pilot program focused on military leadership and sexual assault and harassment.
Michael D. Gatson - PhD
Michael D. Gatson, PhD, is a renowned expert in military psychology/social work and issues related to military mental health. He brings with him an extensive wealth of knowledge as well as personal experience, having served in the Army Medical Reserves as a suicide prevention officer, sexual assault coordinator, and hospital administrator. Dr. Gatson is mental health program director at the Maryland VA Health Care System, contributing faculty in the online MSW program at Howard University, and lead faculty/assistant professor in the Barbara Solomon School of Social Work at Walden University. He is the author of Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep, a children’s book that explains the aftermath of war from a child’s perspective, and he has published in several professional journals on PTSD, suicide prevention, and LGBTQ military consultation, workshops and training to behavioral healthcare providers.
